A little mud and plenty of puddles greeted hunter/jumper riders at the Star City Horse Show at Green Hill Park Equestrian Center on Sunday, but that didn’t keep horses and riders away.
The show used two rings, with hunters in one and jumpers in the other, giving the afternoon a steady flow of activity. The show had an easygoing, low-pressure feel despite the damp footing, with hunters showing in one ring and jumpers in the other. Along the rail, the in-gate was a steady stream of congratulations, last-minute tips, and instruction from coaches.
But the day wasn’t without its challenges. Puddles didn’t always gather in the most convenient places, and one of the larger ones was in a line of jumps down one side of the arena right in front of the judge’s stand. However, almost all the horses splashed along without much fuss. Riders were awarded with beautiful rosettes and neck ribbons for the Derby winners.
Here are a few scenes from the afternoon.
